From Zihwatanejo to Acapulco and back

We have been having fun and traveling with our friends Doug and Sue since February 22. After spending two days in the Ixtapa Marina we headed over to Bahia de Ziwatanejo (what the locals call Ziwat) where we enjoyed the night life and entertainment. After some discussion we decided to head south the 110 miles to Acapulco and what a great time we had there. We went to see the cliff divers and then went on a guided private tour of the city. Acapulco is a beautiful and busy city with lots to do and see. We stayed at one of the two downtown marinas and were able to easily catch a taxi at a very little cost. We now know where all the VW bugs have gone when they retire it is in Acapulco as “taxi cabs”. They are blue and white and you could see up to about 15 of them passing buy at one time. I will post some pics of them on the blog for you to see. We ended up staying in Acapulco for 5 nights, two at the marina and three on anchor. We then had a wonderful full moon overnight 18 hour motor/sail back up to Ziwat. We are currently anchored on the south east side of Baha de Ziwatanejo just off of a lovely quiet beach named Los Gatos. Doug and Sue went scuba diving and we stayed on the boat where Linda used the hooka (underwater breathing device) and worked on the bottom. Today we will go back to Los Gatos beach and snorkel. Tomorrow we will move and anchor in the inner harbor and spend a few days just hanging out in the town. I have to say that Ziwatenejo is my favorite city so far as a place where there is a lot of culture, not too many gringos, and many things to do. The beaches are amazing and the locals we have met are wonderful. Next week when Sue and Doug leave we will start our trek north 300 miles towards Puerto Valerta. We don’t have an itinerary so we will just take our time but do plan to stop in Barra, Puerto Vallarta, Matzalan and all the little villages in between. More to come. Love to you all Linda and Jim
