Hello All
After spending 6 weeks in the Barra de Navidad area, which is about 100 miles south of Puerto Valarta, we sailed south to Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa area. It is very different but interesting. We brought our friend Andre from Barra with us. He had never experienced an overnight passage, so he is now officially crew. Zihuatanejo is about 200 miles south of Barra and about 150 north of Acapulco. There are a lot of gringos here. People from both the US and Canada who have condos and have been coming down for years. One of the things that we have done since we have been here is participate in a charity event called Sailfest. One of the events we participated in was a boat parade where land people sign up to go on your boat and you take them out for a 4 four tour. We had 8 ladies on board (Jim always wanted an all girl crew). It was fun to get to know more land people and find out about the area from people who come down every year.
Our friends Doug and Sue are coming down from Seattle to sail with us for a few weeks. We plan to sail a little further south to a couple of small towns and perhaps do some land tours. We will see. The weather has been rainy and cloudy for the last three days with very little sun. For us it is a nice change but if I were here for just a week’s vacation I would be upset. It is nice to have the boat rinsed off with fresh water. We haven’t been to a marina since we spent 2 days in December at the Grand Bay in Barra so we will go to the marina at Ixtapa next week just to do some boat cleaning and plug into shore power for a few days.
One of the things that we have decided is that this will be the furtherest south that we will go this year. In March we will head north and will plan to spend the hurricane season near the north end of the Sea of Cortez. We are investigating marinas to leave the boat and come home for two months probably for the moths of September/October. I tell everyone we are going to come home long enough for everyone to get sick of us. We miss you all very much…….Love Linda and Jim
