Anchored outside of LaPaz

After a 48 hour passage from Puerto Vallarta via Isla Isabel we are now anchored just outside of LaPaz. We left Puerto Vallarta on the 22nd of April and headed north then northwest. We stopped at Chamela a small ocean side village like many beaches the locals congregate for the Easter holiday. We didn't go ashore as we wanted to leave first thing in the morning. We arrived in the afternoon but from our anchorage the fiesta was something to see. Families, kids and all kinds of people were having a wonderful time playing in and around the warm water and enjoying live music from several bands. I posted some of the pictures we took of the festivities.
In the morning we headed out to see headed northwest to an island named Isla Isabel which is about 20 miles off shores. It is a national park and only has a small fishing village and thousands of birds. It is known as the galapagos of Mexico. The blue footed boobies were my favorite. We were the only boat anchored there. One night was were awakened by a very loud racket and thought someone was trying to come aboard. When we went to investigate there were hundreds of fish flapping around the boat doing something we were not sure what but very noisy. Each morning that we were there, there was a fisherman with his two sons who came out in a small skiff to check their nets. One day they got close so we waived them over to offer the cold drinks and candy and gum and other treats for the boys. They asked us if we wanted a fish and showed us a very large fish. Jim told him it was too “mucho grande” for us. They replied they would be back in one hour. When they came back they gave us two wonderful red snappers about 14 inches long that I cooked for our dinner. They were excellent. We stayed there 3 days just because it was so beautiful and peaceful. The anchorage was open to the sea on the north and east side but as the winds came from the west while we were there the anchorage was calm and wonderful. We hope to visit this anchorage again in the future but the ocean swells and winds may not be as accommodating next time.
We left Isle Isabel and headed toward LaPaz which was across the Sea of Cortes about 46 hours away without any land in sight or a place to stop. The wind was so mild that we only got to sail about 20% of the time. Jim was surprised at how long I stayed up in the evenings during my night watches and not waking him up until 4:30am for his turn for the sunrise portion of the watch. One of us is always awake when we are traveling through the day and night. We made it to Isle Espiritu Santo, about 18 miles from LaPaz, at about 8 am and were amazed at the color of water and how clear it was. We could see the bottom and our anchor and the water was turquoise blue. Needless to say we didn’t stay up very long and went to sleep for about 8 hours. The next day we traveled to LaPaz and met our friend Carol who lives here. We’re still out on the anchor taking the dingy to shore as needed and trying to decide when we will go to a marina. I leave on Tuesday the 3rd for Seattle for 2 weeks. I think I am in a weather reality shock!!
