To the left are some photos that we have taken this last week. The first photos are at the police dock (also called the transient dock) with me zooming in. Next to the police dock is a big resort named Kona Kai. The transient dock is on a little island called Shelter Island which is a pennsula at the entrance to San Diego Bay.
We left to go to Chula Vista there was a race with about 200 sailboat that we had to manuover through them since they have the right of way. We were motoring through to get through to head south. The race hadn't started yet so they were just mealing around. Racers are very daring and needless to say they get very close to other boats and Liebling. I just wanted to get the heck around them.
We left for 3 days to go to Chula Vista (south of San Diego) as we could get three days moorage for free at the the yacht club. It is very shallow there and we came in at low low tide. When we were just 100 feet from our slip there was a shallow patch of slit and mud and we ran aground in 5 feet of water and mud. Of course people on the dock came to talk to us and said that it happens all the time there. It was a beautiful day so just sat on the bow and waited for the tide to come up. Chula Vista Yacht Club was very friendly and we met more wonderful people. Joining the yacht club up in San Francisco was a great investment. We get recipicol moorage and we met all of these local people who are very helpful. We are hoping that there will be a few yachts clubs that we can visit in Mexico.
We will be in San Diego for one more week as we ordered and put in a new charger that will charge our batteries from 110 volts. Right now if we don't have 50 amp power at a dock we have to run the generator or motor to charge the batteries. The first charger we put in ran well for about 4 hours and then fried due to a bad fan. We will put in the second one today. We are also going to replace our batteries (all eight of them) so that will take another day. Needless to say we are looking forward to leaving SD and heading south. Hopefully that will happen Sunday or Monday next week. We will keep you posted on the exact departure date. Love to you all Linda and Jim
