Back in Barra again

It is wonderful to be in Barra de Navidad again.  After spending almost five months in Puerto Vallarta and the Paradise Village Marina we were very happy to be out on the ocean again.  We spent three days to get down to Tenacatita which is about 22 miles north of Barra.  Tenacatita is a wonderful calm anchorage with excellent swimming and snorkeling.   We even had four dolphins swimming around our boat most days. It was amazing to wake up to their breaths when they surfaced around the anchorage.  We ended up spending four days there and will go back soon.  After that we went further south to a town called Melaque which is just across the bay from Barra.  We were only going to spend a day or two but ended up spending four days there as the anchorage was not rolly (as it is sometimes) and the beach is wonderful for swimming and the fishermen were always entertaining us.  The beach restaurants had live music and believe it or not we could get two wonderful meals and 4 margaritas for about $15 us dollars.  One afternoon when we kayaked back to the boat a school of small bait fish jumped out of the water and into Jim’s kayak.  He was yelling O My God as he tried to get them out of his shorts.  The next morning we still found about five of the fish in the Kayak.

We will be staying around Barra until after the New Year and then head south.  There are about 25 sail boats in the area and we hang out with a few of them for swimming and socializing.  When we go into town we take our dingy, kayak or call a water taxi.  The taxies run 24 hours a day and cost 20 pesos ($1.50) round trip from the boat.  The weather is finally a bit cooler with lows about 74 but the highs are still about 90.  It doesn’t feel so hot as the humidity is now in the low 50’s instead of the 70’s a month ago.

Hope you all are doing well and thanks for following our adventure.
